The Cypress Cardi

My goal with this cardi was to make something super soft and cozy that you could wear in the summer, anyone that knows me knows I don’t like being warm and I love comfy clothes!  I think I actually accomplished cozy summer wear, it was 30 degrees celsius when we took pictures and my sister didn’t complain once about being too warm, Lion Brands Mako Cotton is so light, airy and soft it makes for the perfect cool and cozy summer garment!

There is also an ad-free, printable, and color-coded PDF version available for purchase on Etsy and Ravelry! Thank you for your support!

Notes:

  • Please note that the gauge is measured by alternating DC and HDC rows.
  • The beginning CH does not count as a stitch.
  • CH 1 for each HDC row and CH 2 for each DC row.
  • I highly recommend weaving ends in as you go, it makes it a lot easier at the end.
  • The pattern is written in a size small with the other sizes as such S[M,L,XL,2XL,3XL].
  • The first and last DC on row 2 and 4 do not become a bead stitch, they are there to keep the edges straight.

Make two.

Start with main color.

Assembly:

Lay both rectangles flat on top of each other, RS together.  Place stitch markers from the stitch marker you previously placed on row 59(60,61,62,63,64), all the way to the bottom.  Use a mattress stitch to seam together. This will create the back panel. Now that the back is seamed, lay it flat WS down, and fold both “front panels” onto the “back panel”.  Now measure 7.5(8,8.5,9,9.5,10) inches down from the shoulder and place a stitch marker, this will create the armhole, repeat on the other side. Place stitch markers from that stitch marker all the way down to the bottom, then seam together with a mattress stitch.

Trim:

Attach yarn to the corner of the right front panel with a SLST, LS (CH 3, SK 1, SLST in next, repeat) across the entire bottom of the cardi.  Once you get to the corner of the left front panel SC twice in last ST, now you will be working the twisted SC evenly up the left panel around the neck and down the right panel.  Cut and fasten off yarn. Weave in all your ends and you are done!
